On Wednesday, September 10, 2008, TC’s Health Care Practice offered a breakfast seminar titled "An Insider’s Perspective on Health Care Investigations: Can Your Health Care Organization Withstand the Scrutiny of a Government Investigation?" More than 40 members of the health care community attended this morning seminar.

Guest speakers were FBI Special Agent James Appelbaum and Assistant Special Agent Bill Young with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Inspector General. Each provided insights into the area of health care fraud. Thompson Coburn partner Claire Schenk provided an overview of when to initiate an internal investigation, the risks versus the rewards of self-disclosure to the government and the Civil False Claims Act. Jim Gunn, Practice Area Co-Chair, moderated the session.
