Thompson Coburn is pleased to announce that the firm has elected four attorneys to partnership and promoted one attorney to counsel. The promotions, which are effective January 1, 2025, span several practice groups and offices including St. Louis, Chicago and New York.
The newly elected partners are:
Amy Oslica Dougherty (St. Louis) is an employment law attorney focused on counseling in-house lawyers and human resources professionals through day-to-day and complex workplace issues. She assists employers with navigating federal, state and local employment laws. Dougherty received her J.D. degree from the University of Missouri School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree in English and political science from the University of Missouri.
Nicholas Engel (Chicago) handles complex tax and transactional matters, with significant experience advising on the structure and tax issues of corporate acquisitions, dispositions, reorganizations, and spin-offs for domestic and cross-border deals. In addition to his transactional practice, he advises nonprofit clients on their qualification for tax-exempt status. He earned a Master of Laws degree in Taxation from Washington University School of Law, where he also earned his J.D. degree. He holds a Bachelor of Journalism degree and a B.A. degree in political science from the University of Missouri.
April Kirkley (St. Louis) is a former health care administrator who represents health care entities in a broad range of transactional, regulatory and compliance matters. Kirkley advises clients on physician contracting and day-to-day compliance program matters and assists clients with structuring business arrangements in compliance with Stark and Anti-kickback laws and negotiating acquisitions involving hospitals and physician practices. She received her J.D. degree from Saint Louis University School of Law with a certificate in Health Law. Kirkley also holds an M.H.A. degree and a B.S. degree in health information management from Saint Louis University.
Daniel North (Chicago) represents clients in a broad range of real estate matters, including the development, financing, leasing, acquisition and sale of commercial real estate. He has overseen transactions involving many large-scale, multi-use developments of industrial properties, hotels, apartments, offices, and retail. North has a J.D. degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and received a B.S. degree in political science from Sam Houston State University.
In addition, the following attorney is being promoted to counsel:
Mona Patel (New York) represents banks and other financial institutions in a variety of commercial finance transactions. Patel has experience in a broad range of domestic and cross-border transactions, including acquisition financings, asset-based loans, cash-flow loans, receivables purchase transactions and bankruptcy exit financings. She earned her J.D. degree from St. John's University School of Law and holds a bachelor's degree in economics and politics from New York University.
