For the 10th consecutive year, Thompson Coburn has been recognized as one of the best companies in the nation for adopting policies and practices that promote the equal treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees.
The firm again earned a perfect score of 100 points from the Human Rights Campaign’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI) and Best Places to Work Survey. The survey is conducted by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation, which this year evaluated 945 businesses across the country on their treatment of lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender employees, clients, and investors.
Of those, 609 major business – in almost every industry across the nation – received 100 percent rankings and the distinction of “Best Places to Work for LGBTQ Equality.”
Many law firms have followed our lead. As recently as 2013, only 55 law firms received perfect scores. This year, the list includes 127 law firms. In Missouri, just 22 companies achieved 100 percent rankings, including Monsanto and Nestlé Purina Petcare Company.
In 2014, Thompson Coburn became the first law firm in Missouri to actively support a proposed state law to extend basic workplace protections to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community.
The Best Places to Work Survey rates organizations on a 1-100 scale and examines the degree to which companies protect employees from employment discrimination based on sexual orientation and gender identity. It also evaluates how well they implement effective policies on diversity and inclusion, training, health care and domestic partnership benefits.
