Dave represents and advises a host of major corporations in class action defense, complex business disputes, and state and local tax (SALT) controversy.
As a member of the Firm's Business Litigation and Banking and Financial Services Litigation practice areas, Dave represents some of the nation's largest financial institutions in various types of financial services litigation across multiple jurisdictions. These matters include cases alleging lender liability claims, check collection and check fraud claims, bad bookkeeper claims, consumer protection claims, and claims arising under various Articles of the Uniform Commercial Code. Dave also has experience defending financial institutions in major consumer class action litigation.
Dave's SALT controversy work involves representing taxpayers before Missouri local taxing authorities in corporate income, franchise, sales/use, property, and other tax controversies. Dave has successfully handled SALT controversies in the Missouri Administrative Hearing Commission, the Missouri State Tax Commission, and Missouri state courts.
Dave is an experienced trial and appellate lawyer. Prior to joining the Firm, Dave worked as an Special Assistant Public Defender in the St. Louis City Trial Office of the Missouri State Public Defenders System. During that time, Dave handled hundreds of criminal matters, advocating on behalf of indigent clients charged with misdemeanor and felony crimes. As lead counsel, he tried multiple bench and jury trials to conclusion. Dave has also successfully handled appeals in the Missouri Court of Appeals, the Eighth Circuit Court of Appeals, and the Illinois Appellate Court.
