Legal Services of Eastern Missouri will honor Thompson Coburn with the Gerald R. Ortbals Outstanding Law Firm Award at its upcoming For the Common Good Awards. The award honors a law firm that has truly distinguished itself with an exemplary commitment to pro bono service.
Thompson Coburn is a longtime supporter of LSEM. The firm makes an annual $50,000 donation to fund the William G. Guerri Chair, named for Thompson Coburn partner and longtime managing partner Bill Guerri. The donation allows for an LSEM attorney to work exclusively on educational access for disadvantaged children, a special cause for Mr. Guerri.
Some of the firm’s recent pro bono projects include its work for the Boys & Girls Club on a $30 million Superfund cleanup, a collaboration with the St. Louis City Counselor’s office targeting abandoned properties, and a lawsuit that stopped a central Missouri school district from censoring websites supportive of the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender (LGBT) community.
The 12 For the Common Good honorees will be celebrated at an Aug. 28 reception at the Randall Gallery.
