Thompson Coburn Accounts Receivable Specialist Jen Gilmer is an honoree in the first ever statewide awards honoring the “behind the scenes” professionals who play a key role in the success of a law firm.
The "Unsung Legal Heroes" awards are featured in the July 18 edition of Missouri Lawyers Weekly, and honor seven different categories of law firm professionals, from paralegals to law librarians to IT professionals. As Jen told the publication, her favorite part of her position is the relationships she’s built with co-workers. “I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside some of the most intelligent and most dedicated individuals that make up our business office,” she said.
Jen has worked with Thompson Coburn since 2008. Her duties in the firm’s business office include posting and balancing all daily cash receipts, balancing and processing accounting activity for the IOLTA client trust fund, and researching and resolving all questions pertaining to check and cash receipt activity. Jen performs these tasks daily with a high degree of accuracy, productivity and attention to detail, even in the most hectic and high volume times of the year, said Accounting Manager Joe Groeller, Jen’s direct supervisor.
Jen’s resourcefulness and focus on problem solving has been recognized by firm attorneys, clients, and vendors. In just one recent example, Jen performed extensive research into a series of checks paid to the firm with no associated client or vendor name. Her digging led to the discovery that all of the checks had been mailed in error. Jen’s pursuit of a successful resolution saved time and money for both the firm and the outside vendor.
“We’re very proud to have Jen recognized for this honor,” said Thompson Coburn Chief Financial Officer Mary Ann Hallemann. “Jen’s professionalism, initiative and helpful mindset are representative of the outstanding caliber of professionals within our business office and across the law firm.”
Said firm Chairman Tom Minogue, “It takes many talented professionals to support a successful law firm and provide the personalized level of client service that we provide each and every day. That’s why we’re dedicated to creating an energetic, inclusive work environment where outstanding professionals like Jen can thrive and advance their careers."
