Our railroad practice has a long and storied history in the industry, and now the practice has been chosen as the 2018 Railroad Law Firm of the Year by U.S. News & World Report and Best Lawyers (by BL Rankings).
Only one law firm is chosen as law firm of the year, the highest ranking based on U.S. News researcher interviews with clients and other lawyers. The publications look for the firm with the highest ratings for ability, professionalism and integrity. Mayer Brown and Jackson Walker were among the firms receiving first tier (honorable mention) honors this year.
Our copyright law practice was also named best in the nation, making Thompson Coburn one of only 10 law firms in the United States to receive two best-in-the-nation rankings.
Thompson Coburn has one of the largest railroad practices in the country with 26 attorneys and 10 paralegals working together to represent many Class I, regional and short line railroads. We count some of the biggest names in the industry as our clients, including BNSF Railway, CSX Transportation, Illinois Central Railroad Company (CN), Kansas City Southern Railway and Norfolk Southern.
The scope of service we provide to the industry is all-encompassing. Thompson Coburn defends FELA traumatic and occupational claims, third-party tort claims, labor cases, environmental matters, freight disputes and disputes about side track agreements. We also provide real estate, regulatory and corporate assistance to major railroads.
We also play a significant role in shaping railroad law, participating in the regulatory process and obtaining successful results in federal and state appeals courts.
