Thompson Coburn is pleased to announce that partner Katriina McGuire has been named the managing partner of our Chicago office, effective February 16, 2022. Katriina, the chair of Thompson Coburn’s Real Estate Land Use practice, takes over from Rick Reibman, who has led the office since 2020.
“Katriina is an outstanding leader with deep roots in the Chicago business, political and legal communities,” said Thompson Coburn Chair Roman Wuller. “Her passion for the law and for developing talented new leaders in our profession, particularly women and attorneys from other underrepresented groups, aligns perfectly with our Firm values and our plans for growth in the Chicago market.”
Added Roman, “We sincerely thank Rick Reibman for his wonderful leadership of our Chicago office during a period of unprecedented workplace changes. Rick has been committed to fostering the collegiality and strong character that are hallmarks of our Chicago office, and his efforts kept the office connected and in strong spirits even in a remote environment.”
Katriina will lead a full-service office of 68 attorneys that have represented almost half of Chicago’s 100 largest public companies and nearly 30% of its 100 largest privately held companies in an assortment of corporate transactional, real estate and litigation matters. The office’s attorneys are alumni of the SEC, the U.S. Department of Justice, the Illinois State Senate, Cook County State’s Attorney’s Office and other regulatory bodies.
Katriina joins a leadership team of Thompson Coburn office managing partners that are now majority-women, including Nicole Williams (Dallas), Jennifer Post (Los Angeles), and Eileen Brown (Washington, D.C.).
“I’m honored to take the reins from Rick and lead a group of colleagues I love and admire for a Firm that I truly believe in,” said Katriina. “Together we’ll continue to grow our Chicago office, focus on impactful diversity and inclusion efforts, and provide outstanding legal services to clients in Chicago and across the country.”
As a real estate and land use attorney, Katriina helps clients navigate challenging land use and zoning issues throughout the City of Chicago and surrounding suburbs, paving the way for successful developments. For more than two decades, she has advocated for a broad range of clients before the City of Chicago and suburban plan commissions, zoning and economic development committees, zoning boards of appeals and village boards.
In addition to her leadership of Thompson Coburn’s Real Estate Land Use practice, Katriina serves as one of the lateral hiring partners for the Chicago office, focusing on the hiring and successful integration of lateral partners and associates in Chicago. She also chairs the Firm’s Women’s Initiative Steering Committee.
Katriina earned her law degree from Loyola University Chicago School of Law and obtained a B.A. in Political Science from the University of Washington.
