St. Louis City SC recently announced the arrival of President and General Manager, Diego Gigliani. Diego will oversee the club's day-to-day operations, including its sporting, revenue, marketing, experience, operations, administration, and community departments.
The new job was made possible in part thanks to the work of Thompson Coburn’s national immigration practice, which secured an O-1 nonimmigrant visa for Diego, reserved for individuals with extraordinary abilities or achievements. Fatima Khan, who leads the Firm’s immigration practice, and Melinda Potmesil handled the visa filing.
Diego comes to City SC from the City Football Group, the parent company of Manchester City, where he spent a decade. During this period, he had the opportunity to work with 11 out of the 12 clubs associated with the City Football Group. He said, "It'll be an honor to participate with this club over the first several years of its life and I hope to create strong foundations for the future."
While the club's launch has been almost perfect, CEO Carolyn Kindle said the ownership group recognized that its operations could be bolstered by hiring someone with a background in operating soccer clubs. Carolyn said, "As I've said before, building a club in a stadium is one thing. It's very different than operating a club and stadium. I think one of the things we realized as an ownership group is we really don't have that experience."
Diego added, "The ability to really make an impact on the first few years of a club is something very unique in the world, but especially because I've been impressed with absolutely everything I've gotten to know about the club, the ownership group, and the league."
Over the last year, TC has successfully secured several other O-1 visa approvals for City SC’s elite soccer coaches, trainers and recruiters, including Head Coach Bradley Carnell.
