Thompson Coburn partner Aaron Lacey was quoted in an Albany Business Review article on The College of Saint Rose seeking to remain open through a partnership with the University of Albany and financial support from the city. Aaron, who leads the firm’s higher education practice, noted that potential higher-education partnerships can be complex endeavors and said one year is a “fair estimate” for the time it takes to go from initial conversations to consummating a deal.
The whole process of exploring a merger, especially if a school is considering multiple partners simultaneously, can be “confusing and stressful” for the board of trustees, who are often alumni and have an emotional connection to the institution, he told the publication.
