Chip's practice focuses on the representation of individuals, universities, and national and international companies in commercial transactions and counseling involving technology and intellectual property including intellectual property licensing, software (including open-source software), mobile applications, web services and "cloud computing," data analytics, technology research and development, outsourcing and related service agreements, and technology joint ventures and strategic alliances.
He is the past Chair of the Firm's IP Practice Group.
Chip teaches a Technology and Intellectual Property Licensing course at Washington University School of Law, a course he has taught since 1996. He has also made presentations at conferences throughout the U.S. and India on the law relating to Intellectual Property, Information Technology (including open source issues), Internet and E-Commerce, and Data Privacy and Security. He is a former computer programmer and has an undergraduate degree in Information Systems.
Chip was named by The Best Lawyers of America® as the St. Louis Copyright Lawyer of the Year for 2013 (by BL Rankings) and has been voted by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers of America® from 2005-2020 in the categories of Information Technology Law, Copyright Law, Technology Law and Intellectual Property Law (by BL Rankings).
