Jamie assists the real estate tax assessment attorneys in the administration and management of in excess of 4,500 properties at various county and state levels of administrative relief as well as cases pending before the Circuit Court of Cook County.
The representation includes properties in Cook County and the surrounding suburban counties as well as downstate Illinois and other neighboring states. The department caseload includes a variety of properties (vacant land, single family homes, apartment buildings, income producing and owner-occupied commercial and industrial properties, hospitals, medical complexes, condominiums and cooperatives). The department also focuses on interim relief for developers from the acquisition of the property to the completion of the new development or condo conversion. The practice also provides many area banks with temporary assessment relief strategies and counsel for properties in receivership and/or foreclosure. This part of the practice has presented specific challenges with respect to the collection of real estate tax refunds for taxes which were paid and/or redeemed during foreclosure proceedings by banks or receivers. Jamie has been tasked with the factual research and drafting of the appropriate affidavits and releases for submission to the Cook County treasurer. She has assisted with the collection of substantial refunds on behalf of many bank and receiver clients. Jamie has also assisted in the application of real estate tax exemptions and various local real estate tax incentives for qualified taxpayers.
